As part of the France Season in Kazakhstan, an exhibition of the life of Napoleon Bonaparte was held from 20 December 2012 to 9 March 2013, at the Palace of Independence in Astana, put on by the Réunion des Musées nationaux-Grand Palais and the Fondation Napoléon, with the support of the French Embassy.

It included some three hundred works of art, manuscripts and furniture dating from the Napoleonic era gathered for the first time in Astana in order represent the artistic, scientific and political energy that characterised the early nineteenth century for France.
